Lucky for San Diegans, summer doesn’t end with fall equinox. After all, we don’t exactly have seasons. So, why not celebrate your city’s year-round beachy weather with a weekend of fitness, music and local brews in the heart of Pacific Beach? Get stoked for the 20th annual Pacific Beachfest, our favorite family-friendly festival on October 7.
Kick off the fun festival weekend on Friday night with the 2nd annual Beachfest Beer Cup competition. The exclusive competition pits local breweries—including Green Flash, Belching Beaver, and Amplified Ale Works—against each other for awards like Best in Show and People’s Choice Awards. Sip on your favorite Sculpin and carb up with local eats while jamming out to some of your favorite live music before the next morning’s fitness fun.
Hit Your Sandy Stride
Assuming you need to sweat out a fun night at the Beer Cup, you’ve got more than a few options to get your blood moving. Start your Saturday on the sand or in the salt water at Pacific Beachfest’s Sand Volleyball Invitational, the Vavi 4Sum Beach Volleyball Tournament, or the Revolt Summer Surf Series, designed for both pros and amateurs. Competition your thing? It will be — the sand volleyball tournament winners cash out with $4,000.
Next, if you can get the sand out of your toes, lace up those shoes for a half beach, half boardwalk 5K with an incredible view of the Pacific. In true San Diego fashion, race registration comes with free sunglasses and a free craft beer at the post-race beer garden. Come on, you deserve it.
All local everything
Pacific Beachfest is a time to soak in the sun and remember how good we have it. So why not get your groove on with dozens of local musicians playing dance music, EDM, and reggae genres at the three stages set up across the neighborhood.
And let’s not forget the fest part of Beachfest… Feast on fish tacos at the 9th Annual Pacific Beachfest Best of the Beach Fish Taco Contest, which offers taco samples from local favorites like Sandbar Sports Grill, The Local PB, and Pacific Beach Fish Shop. Then, walk off the wahoo and check out dozens of local arts and crafts vendors and celebrate your volleyball wins or 5k PRs with a few more craft beers at the beer garden. See you there!
