I have a standing date with myself every Friday night: a DIY spa night.
Rather than stress myself out getting ready for a night on the town, I use Fridays to decompress from an already stressful week. And what’s a better way to do that with an indulgent spa night that doesn’t break the budget and leads to total relaxation? I have never looked forward to Fridays as much as I do now.
Want in on this self-care night? Here are my basics:
Give yourself a mini facial with a homemade face mask.
For exfoliation, mix 2 tbsp. of coconut oil and 2 tbsp. of brown sugar together. Apply with a gentle circular motion and leave on for 5 minutes before washing off with warm water.
For calming, opt for a mask made of 2 tbsp. honey (warm it up first!), 1 tsp. of cinnamon and 1 fresh lemon wedge. Massage the mixture on to your skin and leave on for 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
For an acne-fighter, mix together 2 tbsp. of honey, 2 tbsp. of nutmeg and 2 tsp. of milk. Gently massage on to your skin and leave on for 10 minutes. Make sure you follow up with your favorite moisturizer! Bonus: while massaging any of these masks in, focus on your temples for headache relief.
Paint your nails while binging on your favorite TV show or podcast.
Pick your signature polish and sit down to fully relax alone (no phone = no chips or smudges). Take your time to apply a base coat and a top coat while finally catching up, uninterrupted, on your favorite series.
Break out your foam roller and lacrosse ball for a self-massage.
Foam rollers and lacrosse balls can be used for more than just post-run “torture” – they can be used for relaxation too! These are great tools for self-massage and for releasing those kinks in your shoulders and neck that you can never seem to reach.
Soak in a warm bath with your favorite book.
Run a warm bath with epsom salts and a few drops of lavender and eucalyptus essential oils. Play a relaxing mix on Spotify, light a few candles around the edge of the bathtub and settle in with a big cup of tea (or a fresh glass of wine!) and your favorite book. Perfect for releasing muscle tension and calming the mind!
Complete the night with a few relaxing yoga poses.
Flow through a few simple spinal twists, pigeon pose, standing wide-legged forward fold, knee-to-nose pose and butterfly pose. Finish with throwing your legs up a wall.
Fire up your diffuser and get some shut-eye.
Finish the night with the perfect spa scent – lavender and peppermint – in your diffuser as you head to bed and catch some zzz’s.
Throw in some yummy candles, fresh flowers and your favorite order-in spot, and you’ll wake up Saturday feeling more refreshed than ever.
